Despite its short history, GIST has faithfully fulfilled its mission of advancing national science and technology and
cultivating outstanding talent, rapidly growing into a globally recognized research university.
In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, published by the UK-based higher education analytics organization QS, GIST
ranked fourth worldwide in citations per faculty, standing shoulder to shoulder with leading universities around the
world.
Furthermore, 23 GIST faculty members were named in the 2025 World's Top 2% Scientists list compiled by Elsevier and
Stanford University. Among them, four professors ranked among the world's top 1% of researchers for the fifth
consecutive year, demonstrating GIST's globally competitive research capabilities.
GIST Graduate Programs: World-Class Research Excellence
GIST graduate programs are further distinguished by the outstanding research achievements of their students and
graduates.
The number of doctoral graduates has already exceeded 2,000, and GIST demonstrates one of Korea's highest levels of
research productivity, with doctoral graduates publishing an average of five to six SCI-indexed papers each.
In particular, approximately 14% of GIST doctoral graduates have been appointed as professors at major Korean
universities, such as KAIST, Korea University, Yonsei University, and Hanyang University, as well as prominent
international institutions, including the City University of New York and Tennessee Technological University, reflecting
the academic recognition they have earned.

2027 Admissions Guide
The GIST Graduate School offers 13 academic units: Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Department
of AI Convergence; Department of Semiconductor Engineering; Graduate School of AI Policy & Strategy; Department of
Physics & Photon Science; Department of Chemistry; Department of Mathematical Sciences; Department of Materials Science
& Engineering; Department of Mechanical & Robotics Engineering; Department of Environment & Energy Engineering;
Department of Life Sciences; Department of Biomedical Science & Engineering; and Department of Integrative Neuroscience
& Physiology. In 2026, the Graduate School of Management of Technology was established to train management professionals
specializing in Glocal AI.
Admissions are conducted three times each year: the first and second rounds for spring admission and one round for fall
admission. Students are admitted to master's, doctoral, and integrated master's -doctoral programs.
Prior to each admissions round, GIST holds admissions information sessions and open lab events. Details are posted on
the graduate admissions website (www.gist.ac.kr/gadm) one to two months before applications open.
Scholarship Benefits
GIST Graduate School offers one of Korea's most comprehensive scholarship and student support systems.
As of February 2026, all required fees, valued at KRW 7.61 million per year, including KRW 3.085 million per semester,
are fully waived. Monthly student allowances of KRW 140,000 for master's students and KRW 295,000 for doctoral students
are provided, together with a monthly meal allowance of KRW 100,000.
Additional research incentives are available through participation in research projects.
Based on 2025 data, the average annual research incentive was KRW 11.03 million for master's students and KRW 17.48
million for doctoral students.
Graduate student dormitories and apartments for married students are available, and students can use the swimming pool
and fitness center at affordable rates.
Furthermore, GIST provides a distinctive educational and research environment that includes intensive education with a
student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1, a range of international research opportunities, scholarships covering living and
preparation expenses for overseas collaborative research, and testing and analytical services using advanced research
equipment.
