Make it and Taste it Yourself
While various clubs and student organizations hold events and concerts frequently, many of them want to
collaborate with MixoloGIST because those events and concerts can easily become dull. We join other clubs’
events and concerts to interact with others, brighten up the mood, and also sell cocktails.
Since they are still college students, they only know a few cocktails like mojitos, but we let them explore
various cocktails through collaboration events. When there are collaboration requests, we hold a meeting to
make and taste cocktails that we think are suitable for the event, select the ones that people would like and
the cocktails we want to recommend, and open a cocktail bar with them.
Different Ratios and Tastes - Our Own Cocktail Recipes
We call it cocktail recipe, but it does not mean that there is something special in it. We are still learning, and
we are in the process of finding MixoloGIST’s own cocktails by finding and experiencing new things and
making them ourselves while preparing cocktails to sell.
Cocktails are about mixing things. We are developing a new cocktail by mixing the recipes we analyzed with
Korean liquor in a different way rather than reproducing known cocktails
In fact, we basically use open recipes, and the ratio is fixed when you make it according to the recipe.
Sometimes it tastes better when you change the ratio a bit or add something else to change the ingredient.
We discover new flavors through experiments.
Finding Golden Ratio for Honey Makgeolli
As you know, honey makgeolli was famous, but when we made it according to a known recipe, it was not
that delicious. We tried to improve it. Mixing only honey in makgeolli tasted dull. Instead, we put honey, milk,
and ice in makgeolli and mixed them all in a blender to give it a texture, and the upper layer became soft like
cream and makgeolli remained in the bottom layer, making it a refreshing drink. We tried to give it a texture
by finely grinding the ice, but simply mixing ice with it without grinding also makes it perfect.
Cocktail Bar on Different Concept Every Year, Introducing Various Cocktails
The purpose of our club is to experience a variety of cocktails. We change the menu every year when we
open a cocktail bar. We always offer a variety of cocktails by operating a bar made of different cocktails and
promote “MixoloGIST” as well.
MixoloGIST usually has about 30-40 active members each year. About 20 people are mobilized each time
we operate a cocktail bar. A cocktail bar is not big, many members are mobilized to operate it because many
students come, we make four to five different types of cocktails, and we need people to clean up afterwards.
The money we earn from the cocktail bar is used to buy more liquor. GIST also supports our expenses, but
it would be awkward for the school to support us with the money to buy liquor, so most of it is used on
cocktail glasses or equipment such as blenders and shakers.
If we can, we would like to donate what we earn from selling cocktails or hold a free tasting event for
students. One thing that we regret is that when we hold events is that mainly students come to the events
but professors and faculty members hardly come. I hope professors and faculty members also come to a
cocktail bar to enjoy great drinks and encourage us.
Club Members, Getting Close by Making and Learning about Cocktails
We train new members on cocktails. When new people come, we all go to a cocktail bar to experience and
taste different cocktails. Also, we have something called ‘Base Liquor Training,’ where the staff teaches new
members how to use tools, the terms such as shaking and stirring, how the taste changes according to the
size of the ice, and so on. We have a monthly event, and we meet a lot and spend much time together,
which certainly bring members closer to each other. When people leave the club, they sometimes leave
behind their glasses or tools, and we make good use of those tools. Also, senior and junior students come to
the cocktail bar to support us. It is really great to have seniors like them.
Place to Find Rare Cocktails Easily and Interestingly MixoloGIST!
The biggest advantage of MixoloGIST is that once you join the club you can easily enjoy cocktails that are
difficult to find. Whenever we have an event or a meeting, we change the menu and you can try something
new each time. Because we prepare, enjoy, and evaluate cocktails by ourselves, we have a great opportunity
to experience various cocktails. While it is not easy to interact with people, it is really nice to have such
experiences, which is great.
While making and drinking cocktails, we naturally have much time to talk to each other, which forms a
strong bond between seniors and juniors and builds friendship among members. Those are great advantages
of our club. Titles like club president and vice president might create a sense of hierarchy in some clubs, but
we get along quite comfortably without any of that.
